Terephthalic acid

UV HPLC Analysis of Isomers of Phthalic Acid on Amaze HA Mixed-Mode Column in Reversed-Phase and Anion-Exchange Modes
Application description

This UV HPLC method is designed for the precise analysis of isomers of Phthalic Acid using an Amaze HA Mixed-Mode Column. The separation is conducted in both reversed-phase and anion-exchange modes, offering versatility in chromatographic characterization. Phthalic acid, a precursor in the synthesis of industrial chemicals, including phthalate esters and dyes, exists in three isomeric forms: ortho-phthalic acid, meta-phthalic acid, and para-phthalic acid. Ortho-phthalic acid, known as 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, features two adjacent carboxylic acid functional groups on the benzene ring. It is a colorless crystalline solid with moderate solubility in water. Meta-phthalic acid, or 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid, has carboxylic acid groups attached to carbon atoms separated by one carbon atom on the benzene ring. It shares similar physical properties with ortho-phthalic acid and is sparingly soluble in water. Para-phthalic acid, or 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid, exhibits carboxylic acid functional groups attached to opposite sides of the benzene ring. It is also a colorless crystalline solid with limited solubility in water. The Amaze HA Mixed-Mode Column is selected for its dual functionality in reversed-phase and anion-exchange modes. In reversed-phase mode, the column facilitates separation based on differences in hydrophobicity, while in anion-exchange mode, it selectively retains and separates charged species, such as the carboxylate ions of phthalic acid isomers. By employing this UV HPLC method, precise quantification and characterization of Phthalic Acid isomers can be achieved, facilitating their analysis in various industrial and environmental applications.

HPLC Method for Analysis of Phthalic Acids on Coresep SB Column in Reversed-Phase and Anion-Exchange Modes
Application description

Phthalic acids are aromatic dicarboxylic acids with various positions of carboxylic groups. Isomers of phthalic acid were analyzed in reversed-phase anion-exchange on Coresep SB HPLC mixed-mode column. The small difference in hydrophobicity/polarity and acidic properties of molecules contributes to great resolution between these acids. Method and HPLC column can be used for analysis of phthalic and other acids in various matrices with various detection techniques (UV, ELSD, RI, MS, etc.). Coresep SB column combines unique selectivity of mixed-mode with ultra-high efficiency of core-shell particles technology. HPLC method is reproducible and robust.
